FAQ

How does a spray tan work?

The spray tanning liquid contains an ingredient called DHA (Dihydroxyacetone). This compound reacts with amino acids in your skin and oxygen in the air, leaving your skin a darker shade. This reaction happens differently depending on your skin tone. I have a range of solutions to suit different skin tones and the depth of colour you desire.

Is spray tanning safe?

Spray tanning is the easiest way to achieve a healthy, bronzed glow without the risks that come with sun exposure. It eliminates the risk involved with UVB rays and sunbeds, and is completely safe. Please remember that the tanning product does not contain an SPF, so will not protect you from the sun.

How do I prepare for my spray tan and maximise its life afterwards?

Please see the dedicated page with my top preparation and aftercare tips.

What should I wear after my spray tan?

Wear dark, loose-fitting clothes after your appointment to avoid rubbing off your new gorgeous glow.

Can I have a spray tan during my pregnancy?

What should I wear to be spray tanned?

Spray tans are typically pregnancy safe after the first trimester.

However, if you have concerns please check with your GP first.

During the spray tan you can wear as little or much as you are comfortable with. Just remember that any swimwear or other types of clothing worn will leave tan lines and you are recommended to wear old or dark coloured items.

What does the process involve?

Firstly, I will carry out a short consultation to understand what kind of tan you are looking for. Then you will be asked to undress into what you want to wear during the spray tan. I will apply barrier cream to areas which often tan unevenly, such as elbows, knees and ankles.

Once you are prepared, I will ask you to stand in the spray tanning tent and show you body poses which allow for the most even tan. I will work through each body part in turn. Be prepared for the spray to be a little cold. When tanning your face, I will ask you to hold your breath and close your eyes.

Once your whole body has been sprayed, you will need to stand and allow the tan to dry, so as not to disrupt it too early by getting dressed. Making sure the tan is 100% dry after a spray will decrease the risk of patching and uneven colour. If you have chosen the original tan, don’t be alarmed if the colour is darker than you want at this stage. It is just because of the guide colour in the tan solution which helps me ensure the colour is even.

When should I shower afterwards?

Wait at least 1 hour if you have had an Rapid Tan and at least 8 hours if you have had an Original Tan before showering. It's crucial to avoid any swimming or sweating, not to apply any products or moisturise, and not to exfoliate before this first shower. All of these things can make your spray tan uneven or streaky.
